@the shed

Super session at the shed today, planned to meet john and dean at the shed for 11:30 but spent a sleepless night coughing and feeling sorry for ones self, so had to cancel.

However, by about 12:30 felt a lot better. Dean rang and said he was on his way up to the shed. Well, had to go if only to spot.

Super shot, dean going for a high placement.

I'll just chill for a while.

Tools of the trade.

Head to toe protection.

Stay warm

Chilly morning, however the heat started to rise pretty quick when the tools came out.

Quick warm up on the 55 deg wall,

Then over onto the beast in the log shed.

The  new addition to the shed is a real burner, you are really put through your paces on this side of the shed with the 55 deg leaner.

You end up in the plank position for most of the moves, so going from a stein pull to a high hanger really tests your strength and stamina, especially if you alternate left to right right to left.

So, all in all a great session of hard combinations.

A Good day for tooling

A great day for Drytooling

Early start

Just added a lead route to the board, great way to up the pressure with move and clip.

To tired little woodpeckers.

Simple BLOG, vid tells all, had a great session with lots more on the cards. The new design in the log shed is providing a super platform to train hard. I will be developing the Log Shed further over the coming months.

Inspiration

Inspired, re charged and energiesed and ready to move up to the next level. Well to be fair, the level We were at last year.

We've just come back from KMFF14 (kendal mountain film festival) and we are well up for it, it's re charged the brain battery ready for gettin our heads sorted for Rjukan. The coming months ahead will be tough, and hard with a cup or too of pain popped in for good luck.

The day started at 04:45, up breaky and off to pick Dean up. We arrived at Kendal at 08:15, met cliff. Cliff Lowther of http://www.roxcool.co.uk/ and headed off down to the Brewery Box Office to pick the tickets for our film pass. We took in over 9 hours of films with the best of the day, in my opinion being China Jam. Fantastic film and we'll humoured, never a dull moment.

But without doubt my overall favourite was the amazing film by Simon Gee for,

Standing on the shoulders of giants, starring Pete Holder as the main character. The iconic story of Siegfried Hereford and central buttress on Scafell. I think this film will go a long way as there is many more miles of history to be told and reels of un shown film to be seen.

Pete Holder on the buttress during filming, this was also used as the front cover picture for the KMFF14 brochure. Most people will remember Pete as the energetic climber frequently seen at Hodge close (Bakestone Quarry's) running some if not the hardest routes in Drytooling, or just doing crazy stunts around the lakes.

So back to the start of our adventure, no parking at the inn. Well we found one, the only trouble being the front left and back right were off the ground. So do we find another space, no we buggering well don't. Dean rummages round in the hedge to find some wood and bricks, bingo, car is level.

3 hours of films, whoop whoop. Then off to a whiskey tasting session.

Oh yeh, forgot. Prior to this we were having a couple of scoops when we were asked to go in for the whiskey tasting session.

By this time it's looking like we're goin to be pretty pissed.

Yep, the whiskey is going down very nicely. Hats off to the chaps at glenfiddich.

So off to the Town Hall for more action.

Bit early I think, never mind at least we will be at the front.

Next film up on the big screen is Project Mina, great film with lots of super inspiration.

Food time, the best ever burgers a fellow could have.

It's off to the Lesiure centre for more film action.

Whakey whakey time and it's off for breaky at Weatherspoons.

Yummy

Know it's time to get rid of the weekends extras.

Back at the Log Shed on home ground. Big session on the new holds and the new exstention to the wall. Had a great time and feel well pumped.

Shed extension

So, it's time to extend the Log Shed.

Two boards left from the original build, so its time to make an update on the original design.

Painted and ready to be drilled for the T-nuts, T nuts are the locating or locking unit you drive in from the rear of the panel to bolt the holds to.

Internal view, looks ace and should stay dry in the wet so it gives an added bonus as training can continue even on wet days. Training is key as were are off to Norway again this Febuary and progressing our tick list is key. Rjukan is the target with the upper gorge firmly fixed in our sights with routes like Lipton on the cards.

Holds don't have to be bought, this holds an old gate hindge with two used angle grinder discs as back plates. Carpet and ply board make an ace stein pull unit, solid. The hold below is an old flat bar hindge, again really solid and above all, free.

Reps are key, moving up and down the board at different time slots. 3 mins 4 mins 5 mins ect. Getting the time length up creates stamina, and above all fun. So a fantastic afternoon on the board fuelled by  http://www.battleoats.com/ Ate one of the Choc Chip prior to my work out and just felt powered all the way through the moves, no aches or pains in the morning.

Thè old Boulder mats handy on the tricky holds, prevents a nasty impact on the ground, if you pop.

Focusing on the important things ahead

BIG title

However, true to the last. Dean and myself set off to Whitegoods just outside of Ruthin North Wales this morning. http://www.ukclimbing.com/logbook/crag.php?id=3826 not before pre climb prep work on the scarpa DT boots.

So boots in order, kit in the car and it's off. Well off ish, no good climb session starts without a coffee and cake, or not any climb I've been on. So Booths here we come, booths @knutsford.

Let me tell you, booths at knutsford, wow, what a super setup. I was impressed, normally go to booths at Milnthorpe, but as most good climbers, must travel. So, coffee full, cake filled and we are off to do business with the rock.

Oh, sorry forgot. Before we rock so to speak little top up at Weatherspoons in Ruthin.

Weatherspoons Ruthin, eggs benedict.

So fully refreshed, toilet break complete, for some and we are off.

Ruthin town is superb, need to spend more time looking round. The whole town is a gem, a national treasure and a complement to Welsh history.

Right, down to business.

Today's attack point, kitchen garden. We deliberately stayed away from the main face as we want to push hard by doing rep sessions. Rep sessions are three on three off ect ect. So first ups me for a lead on Adam to set the top rope in. Dean decides to pull the rope and runs Adam clean for the second lead route. Top rope in and it's me for the first three reps, dean follows with an impressive run, three sets on the trot with no issues. Top rope moved over towards Apple and its a second set of reps. The star attraction on this slab is without doubt (And Pears) excellent overhanging start with torque moves all the way up. So at what point did cranberry and blueberry fusion play a part in all this (http://www.battleoats.com/) I would love to tell you but don't have a clue. I know that sounds odd but really, does anyone if your really truefull. So, time line story. Arrive at climb, eat part of the bar, eat more of the bar, get pumped feel hungry finish bar off, nuth said wrapper in the bag,bin pocket were ever. (Not on the floor). So does it work, well the bar tastes ace I feel great after a pretty hard session and I am sitting here babbling away on my BLOG  without any of the usual aches and pains or slow deteriation of mind and body which usually accompanies physical exercise. Oh, forgot to say, the best part of the bar http://www.battleoats.com/ was a super surprise, a whole cranberry, whoop whoop. I can tell you it tasted ace and if you really think about it, it shows that these guys are really using fresh wholesum ingredients, well chuffed.

Psyched  ready for pain, pain is short lived, but Lipton is forever. Pun, Lipton is the target. Lipton is a Norsk ice climb, next year (Feb) Dean and I will be heading out to Norway to climb Lipton, long awaited. See Rjukan Ice Climbing guide for further details.

Ok, a bit of a showy shot. Must admit I love the new pants, goes well with the old Hagloff top.

Dean just starting up (And Pears) remember, repetition makes you strong for the trails ahead. It's difficult to resist the routes all around but focus is key. Feb 2015 will see some amazing routes being climbed in Norway, with Lipton firmly in our sights.

The tree of souls.

SPA day not

So, early on this week I mentioned that we were heading off up to Stanage to take part in the SPA course run by our northern easterly friends at http://www.roxcool.co.uk/. Ok, that's not happening now. Reason, unfortunately one of the course attendees couldn't make it. One they have missed a super course and the other is they will never get to see me devour the double choc chip battle bar.http://www.battleoats.com/

Oh, and the third thing I don't think I will either as the plan now is to head off to North Wales and burn some energy on the ever famous Welsh drytooling venue called Whitegoods, thus heading off early and will miss the postman who has my battle bar in his sack. BUGGER Anyway this venue was aptly named as before the kind folk of the drytooling community arrived it had been used as a dumping ground for old fridges and the like.http://www.ukclimbing.com/logbook/crag.php?id=3826 now it's a super venue with routes to be drulled upon, or just climb them, your choice.

Option four, take spare chocy chip bar out of car boot. Looks like its option four, so there should be another super review on the way for tommorrow night with all the ups and downs and a true report of how the chocy chip performed.

Roll on tomoz.
