The WORKS

Scattered showers and a soggy dog

Set of at 07:30 for the Works, weather looking pretty miserable. Called in at Booths in Milnthorpe for the standard croissant, lovely.

Off down to Hollands cafe in Coniston for bacon barm and Latte.

Arriving at the Works fully refreshed we headed up to Bakestone quarry to get onto some routes we hadn't done for a while as we have been concentrating on routes in the industrial area and the cave at the main quarry.

First route to be attacked was Right Slip M5. Dean set up a top rope from the tree above as the bolts are still in a dangerous state from the recent sabotage attack last year which saw several routes severely damaged by vandals cutting and removing the bolts and the lower off chains.

I took the first run which went well, just had to try and remember the route as it had been a while since I last climbed it. Next went Dean with a nice clean run, then out to John to show his much improved foot work. John sent the first section with good style, balancing on tiny ledges to gain the
middle section of the route.

Next routes were a lead on Left Slip at M5, all on natural holds so slightly different than the drilled pockets on right slip.

Finally finishing off with a nice clean lead on Outfield M6. I've climbed this before but never lead it, so it was good to put this to bed. Outfield has quite a tricky exit to the lower off chain, pumppy.

All in all a great day out and well worth the visit.
