Fountains in the moon light and seagulls in the sun.

The Grange Hotel grange over sands Cumbria.

A Totally none climbing BLOG.

Not the norm for me but felt honour bound to do this amazing hotel some justice, not that it needs it.

I emailed the Grange Hotel around two weeks ago to arrange a weekend away for our 29th wedding anniversary. Everything setup, confirmation by email and it's just a case of getting through the next couple of weeks at work. Not to difficult as Dean and myself are climbing on Helvellyn this sat, then a week of lates and straight back up to the lakes due to having Friday off. Need to move and commute as we are never away from here, just love it.

Early evening the fountain comes alive, what a superb feature to sit by in the garden with a cool breeze drifting in off the sea. This particular evening the moon was out and the stars shone bright in the night sky.

Views across the estuary from the bedroom window

Superbly clean and tidy suits

Sunlit rooms

Heading down the stairs for an evening meal. Took in some drinks at the bar prior to our meal in the main restaurant. Meals of equal standing are available in the lounge area adjacent to the bar, if you fancy a slightly relax environment.

Looking towards the hotel bar, nice and light and lots of little cosy rooms to slip away into, almost like private lounges.

Coffee in the lounge, quite and peacefully.

It would not be correct to be a happy snapper at the meal table, nor would it be polite. so I have refraind from taking pictures of various superb selections of our continuos menu but can only tell you that it was beyond compare. However I did slip a krafty low level shot in at breakfast on the quite.

The breakfast menu, superb. Fresh fruit and the most amazing natural yoghurt along side a selection of  nuts and dried coconut and banana. Fresh juices and fresh bread and butter including pots of honey, marmalade ect. With of course the standard selection of cereals, all very nicely presented.

But now to a special corner of my heart, would sir like a full cooked breakfast. I am sure that the glint in my eye gave it away. Very most definitely my reply.

Super selection and well cooked, I must say the poached eggs were superb, but then so was the sausage, oh and the bacon. To be honest it was all cooked to a great standard.

Breakfast complete and we are off to circumnavigate the west lakes. We took the coast road all the way round through Millom and round to Eskdale. Called in at a super little village called Arlington.

Lots of storm damage here in the area, the beaches told a story of damage and death. Some local wildlife didn't survive the storms at sea.

This was a more normal view of the beach,I am not going to share the less favourable shots as it would distract the mind from the areas natural and normal beauty. Soon Mother Nature will tidy the mess up.

The life boat station at roa island and Piel castle in the back ground.

Awaiting the tide

Next we're off for dinner at the King George IV in Eskdale green.

Super pub and the food is fantastic value. The King George used to be named the king of Prussia and my 3rd great grand uncle William Rogers used to run the pub with his wife Jane Wilson and there twelve children back in 1822.

A fine pint of beer and a pot of tea, and two superb prawn baguette for two all for £17.

Dinner complete and it back in the car for a scenic ride over Hardknott pass.

Back into Grange village to sample the local delights. First off a super latte and apple pie at the coffee shop in the main strand below the hotel. Over the road towards the railway station and onto the walkway running the length of the estuary with fantastic views.

What an amazing wildlife catchment area, not to mention some amazing fossils in the pier and station walls, hidden secrets.

Nearly time for tea, table reserved for 19:30. 7:30 in old money.

Quick stretch of the legs, then it's off for another culinary delight. Dressed and down stairs for tea in the restaurant. We are met as usual by the restaurant manager, impeccably dressed and polite to a T. First glance at the shoes, you can always tell a lot by a gentlemans shoes, as you would expect clean and shiny. We are again lead to our table with all the customary routine, chairs withdrawn from the table and we are seated and made comfortable.
The menu is presented and the difficult desicions are made. Starters, scallops, with duck as the main followed by the cheese board. However between these superbly presented meals are tasters, a superb little jacket potatoe in a gorgeous silky smooth sauce. With soup to follow, home made with crusty bread rolls.

I did say it would be impolite to take photographs at the meal table, I couldn't resist just one, my opologies.

With the meal concluded we are to take coffee in the lounge, which is very much required, as a stretch is in order.

Coffee arrives as we asked, and served exactly to our liking. The little things I take great note of,as they are the hidden tasks which are seldom seen but provide the experience you asked for but never quite understand why it was just so.

The hidden things.

I asked for coffee, the gentleman didn't know weather I took milk or cream with my coffee. So as for me not to have to wait he brought both, and asked does sir prefer milk or cream. You may think this is a little trifle, but it meant I didn't have to wait. That is one off the many special skills which provide a superb evening.

The next entry would have been breakfast, but I find myself closing at this point with no need to further my love of this hotel by scribbling further thoughts which have already been said. So take a journey of your own and live it through this amazing hotel and its staff simply called The Grange Hotel grange over sands Cumberland
